Project Site : Orissa
The Banki Block in Orissa The Banki block in Cuttack district is situated in the lower catchments area of the Mahanadi River . The north part of the project area is dominated by the River Mahandi, in the South of the area lies the Chanadaka elephant sanctuary, the biggest elephant sanctuary in the state, interfacing intensively with the agricultural activities in the cultivated land. In the North in the bank of the River Mahanadi the embankments impede the natural drainage in the upstream areas, other than the main river channels. Project villages For the project implementation three vulnerable villages have been :Bilipada of Bilipada Gram Panchayat, Pathpur and Chakuleswar in Pathapur Gram Panchayat of banki Damapada gram panchayat . The main livelihood of these villages of almost 1233 household's with 5917 people, is agriculture. The economic status of the households in these villages represents with around 40 % below poverty line the economical situation of Bilipada : The revenue village Bilipada is a vast area having more than 1400 hectares of land of which most is affected by flood and drought.
